Following on from our previous topic as to what exercise is the best: debunked – found here:
I often hear from both clients who are starting with me and people training in the gym that they are following a programme based off an application. Firstly, I think this is a good thing that you are looking to become more active.
However, there are better ways for you to be training. For one – these are mass marketed programmes which offer little to no individualization for you as a person. This means what works for someone else well may not necessarily work for you.
Secondly, if you are unfamiliar with an exercise, or new to exercise in general some of the movements may not be practical for you and may even cause you to be at risk of injury. Until you have improved on the basic movements that are performed in the gym, you should not be attempting anything else.
In addition, you might have weak points that you currently realize you don’t have – and by following these programmes they will not tailor to these weak points and may actually be causing you more harm than good. We have had clients come to us who have been following programmes from popular fitness apps who were doing exercises which were dangerous for them to follow.
That is why we provide a movement and screening analysis for each client before they begin training and provide you with additional content to help you strengthen the bodies’ weak areas and find what works and what do not work for you.
