I believe there is far too much confusion around when it comes to nutrition and eating food. I hear a lot of these when talking to my clients, when in the gym, everywhere! So I can only imagine how you must feel when hearing so many conflicting stories.
“I shouldn’t eat fruit because that is too much sugar!”
“I shouldn’t eat carbs late at night because I wake up heavier the next day!”
“I can’t eat anything with sweetener or chemicals in it because they are dangerous!”
There are many others but the point is being lost completely. You should be more focused on nourishing your body with food from the land and how this affects your goals than anything else!
If your goal is to lose weight, then you should be eating less than are burning – and vice versa, if you are looking to gain size then you want to eat slightly more than you are expending! Choosing foods should be based on how full they make you, the nutritional value they provide and finally whether you enjoy eating these foods.
Remember that there are no foods which are good or bad but certain things require much more moderation than others. In the same respect, no food groups are good or bad, but there are certain things which we should be eating more moderately dependent upon our goals.
You should be eating fruits and vegetables without fearing they will make you gain weight as they contain many other vital nutrients which help with weight management!
You shouldn’t fear eating at certain times of the day on the provision that your calories you’re taking in are lower than the calories you are burning off. Now granted there are many other factors which need to be considered but this is one of the most important factors!
Much of the research provided on sweeteners has deemed them safe for consumption but we should still only use them in moderation. Many of the foods grown from the ground once broken down have lots of chemicals in them so you shouldn’t be put off by this, and why evidence based research in nutrition is so important to help us look and feel great!
