How to lose 14lb in a week

I lost 14lbs in one week.

This is a conversation i overheard from someone i know, lets call her Kate to protect her identity.

I have had many conversations with “Kate” about nutrition.

Now Kate is what i would call a keyboard warrior (fully appreciate the irony that i am frantically typing away on my MacBook Pro lol) Kate has no background in nutrition, is prone to yo yo dieting and is a “clean” eater and is convinced she knows best. Let’s just say i’ve had same proper heated debates with Kate.

Kate happened to mention this new special diet she is on that has caused said weight loss. Now Kate said she can eat anything she wants. The diet as as follows.

No sugar
No salt
Only “real clean” food (whatever the fuck that means)
No pasta
No rice
No potatoes (this diet is starting to depress me)
Can only eat two meals and one snack a day (screw that for a game of toy soldiers)

What is allowed?

Animal protein some condiments (no salt you say?)
Fruit (i thought this diet was sugar free?)
Veg (again i though this diet was sugar free)

At this point as an observer listening from afar, i wanted to rip my arm off just so i something to throw at the next table.

LETS LOOK AT THE SCIENCE AT THIS DIET.

It’s essentially a very low carb diet. YOU ARE CUTTING OUT AN ENTIRE MACRONUTRIENT WHICH IS 4KCAL PER GRAM, OF COURSE YOU LOST WEIGHT DRAMATICALLY.

Put simply, Kate is in a huge calorie deficit. Yes that is a lot of weight to loss in 7 days but it is far from safe.

However, as a nutrition coach i have to say the following. Now, how can i put this without being a douche? THIS IS REALLY F*CKING STUPID! Unsustainable, unhealthy, overly restrictive and enter the diet rebound when said diet finishes.

Take home point.

Every diet protocol regardless of its method and packaging all achieve the same thing. A CALORIE DEFICIT!

Please Kate, for the love that is all good and pure do some research and be safe. Your diet is actually quite dangerous.
